1. Call me by your name (2017)
This story of an unlikely romance is sure to capture your heart. A romantic coming-of-age drama set in Italy, this film follows a seventeen-year-old as he falls in love with an older man for the first time. Call Me By Your Name" is a beautiful film about first love. It's tender, poignant, and will leave you feeling all the feels.
2. The shape of water (2017)
From one of my favorite directors Guillermo del Toro, this academy award-winning film follows a mute cleaning lady as she forms a connection with an amphibious creature being held in a secret government laboratory. Starring Sally Hawkins. The Shape of Water is a bit of a quirky choice, but it's a gorgeous film with a very romantic storyline. For a classic drama, Brokeback Mountain follows two ranch hands in rural Wyoming who are secretly in love with one another but don’t have the courage to come out. This film is an unconventional love story that is both heart-wrenching and beautiful. Starring the late Heath Ledger and academy-nominated Jake Gyllenhaal.
4. Carol (2015)
After seeing this film, it reminded me just how talented Cate Blanchett is! This film follows an up-and-coming photographer and the woman she falls in love with, despite her being a married woman in the 1950s. This is a stunning film about forbidden love. It's intense, passionate, and will stay with you long after you've seen it.
5. her (2013)
Her is a science fiction romance film set in the near future starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson. Her is a unique and heartwarming film about love and technology.
6. la la land (2016)
This one is for musical lovers! I must admit it took me a while to come around to watching this film because it was a musical. I’m not really a fan of musicals but, this one might make me reconsider. This popular musical follows two played by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, struggling artists as they attempt to find success and love in Los Angeles. This one is a fun and romantic musical that will have you falling in love with love all over again.
7. IF beale street could talk (2018)
The creators of the academy award-winning film Moonlight “If Beale Street Could Talk” is a contemporary and powerful drama about a black couple's struggle to find justice in an unforgiving world. When I first watched this film I was so moved! The score for this film was so enthralling that it just added more emotions to the film.
